Kenninji Temple is a hidden gem located in Kyoto near the Gion district.

We had the best experience popping by at night when it was beautifully lit up.

The whole place takes on a peaceful, almost magical vibe after dark! But it’s definitely worth a visit during the day too, especially if you love history and culture.

You can go inside and take a look around the inside, including the famous "Fujin-Raijin" screen paintings.

The oldest Zen temple in the city, the temple grounds have beautiful gardens, striking dragon paintings, and a famous mural of the wind and thunder gods.

There’s a small entrance fee of ¥500 (about $3.50 AUD), but we're told it's worth it.

If you're in Kyoto, don’t miss it!
