Now THIS is an amazing Senja hike! The trail up Sukkertoppen is just 1.25 miles long (so 2.5 miles roundtrip), but it gains over 1,450 feet (450m) and is very steep at the end.

If you're hiking with kids we'd probably go only about 90% of the way up. Most of the hike is relatively easy and doesn't have sheer drop offs, but for the last part to get top the summit, you need to climb up some exposed ridges and a place where you ned to use a chain.

We turned around once it got a bit sketchy,, but you don't need to hike all the way to the top to get these incredible views! The water from here is phenomenally blue, and you start to question if you're really in the Arctic, as opposed to the Caribbean, or Tahiti.

Parking: There isn't any parking at the trailhead, but we dropped the family off at the trailhead, which is right along the side of the road (look for the Sukkertoppen sign), and then the driver can go and park in the lot on the entrance road to Hamn I Senja hotel, just a few minutes walk down the road (and then go and get a drink or eat there afterwards...)
