One of my favorite spots in Thun is the fairytale-like Schloss Schadau, sitting right by Lake Thun with stunning mountain views. The castle itself dates back to the 19th century and today it houses a restaurant and hotel – perfect if you want to treat yourself to a coffee with a view or even a romantic stay.

Surrounding it is the Schadau Park, one of the most beautiful lakeside parks in Switzerland. It’s a wonderful place for a slow walk, a picnic on the grass, or simply to relax and soak in the scenery. In summer, you’ll often see locals gathering here to swim or enjoy the sunshine.

Tips & Recommendations:

• Visit in the evening for magical sunset views over the lake.

• The park is free to enter and open year-round.

• If you’re into photography, this is one of the best places to capture Thun’s charm with both the castle and the Alps in the background.

• Combine your visit with a walk along the lake promenade into the old town – it’s an easy and scenic route.
