Gletschermühlen Alp Mora is one of the most spectacular geological sites in Switzerland, located above Trin in the Albula Valley, Graubünden. Around 20 glacial potholes (“Gletschermühlen”) line the Alp Mora, carved over millennia by swirling stones and meltwater. In summer, visitors can enjoy a refreshing dip in the turquoise mountain pools — a truly unique alpine experience.

How to Get There

  • By Car: Take the road opposite Flims Dorf Post office towards Fidaz.

  • By Public Transport: With the Postbus from Chur to Flims Dorf Post then a local bus to Fidaz, Bargis.

  • Parking: 30 parking spaces at Fidaz Waldrand. after that driving is prohibited.

Trail Details

  1. Standard Route (Full Hike) - Bargis - Alp Mora - Trin

    • Distance: ~18.2 km

    • Ascent: ~820 m, descent: ~1490 m

    • Duration: ~6 h 40 min

  2. Shorter Route (with Alp Mora Bus / “Alpen Taxi”)
    From July to September there is a bus from Trin to Purcs twice a week (Wednesday and Saturday), if you want to significantly shorten your hike.

    • Distance: ~7 km round trip

    • Elevation Gain: ~410 m

    • Duration: ~3 h

    • Route: Take the Alp Mora Bus (reservation required, early July–early September) from Trin Porclis to Purcs → hike to Gletschermühlen Alp Mora and back

    • Saves ~3 hours of uphill hiking and ~890 m elevation gain

    • Reservation recommended due to limited capacity

Tips & Recommendations

  • Wear sturdy hiking boots and bring trekking poles for the uphill sections

  • Carry enough water, snacks, and layers for changing weather

  • Start early, especially if choosing the longer trail

  • No restaurants along the trail — bring a packed lunch

  • Reserve the Alp Mora Bus in advance if you want the shorter route

  • Don't forget your swimsuits, the glacier mills are perfect for refreshing yourself after the challenging ascent

  • Early summer offers fewer crowds and vibrant alpine flowers

  • The trail is not stroller-friendly
