Directions

Visiting Te Waihou Blue Springs feels like stepping into Disney movie. Tucked away near Putāruru in the Waikato, this natural spring produces some of the clearest, purest water in the world—so clean it supplies around 70% of New Zealand’s bottled water. The first glimpse of the stream stops you in your tracks: water so intensely blue and glassy that it looks almost unreal, with green water grasses swaying gently beneath the surface like ribbons in slow motion.

Leslie Road Entrance

  • Distance & Time: ~1.5 km return, about 10–15 minutes each way.

  • Why choose it: Quick and easy—perfect if you just want to see the springs without committing to a full walk. Great for families, travellers short on time, or anyone after a gentle stroll.

  • What you see: You’ll arrive right at the heart of the springs, with vibrant blue water and lush underwater plants on full display.

Whites Road Entrance

  • Distance & Time: ~4.7 km one way (allow 60–90 minutes return).

  • Why choose it: A scenic riverside walk that’s more of a journey. You’ll pass farmland, native bush, and smaller streams before reaching the springs. Perfect if you enjoy hiking and want to experience the changing landscape.

  • What you see: More variety along the way—boardwalks, farmland views, shady bush tracks—before arriving at the main viewing platforms.

Local Tip: If time allows, do the longer Whites Road track for the full experience. But if you just want the spring’s magic moment with minimal effort, Leslie Road is the best pick.
