Along the 8-mile Bonita Canyon Drive, there’s a small roadside pull-out where you can spot one of the monument’s most recognizable rock formations. Sea Captain Rock gets its name from the striking profile that looks uncannily like a sea captain’s face carved into the stone — once you see it, you can’t unsee it. The pull-out is on the left side of the road if you’re driving in from the entrance. Look back to your right, just behind you, to find the Sea Captain rising above the canyon. The stop only has enough room for a couple cars, but its super quick so shouldn't take too long (in and out in less than 5 minutes)
