Transportation and Exploration
Airport Formalities: Paris welcomes you through two main airports, Orly and Charles-de-Gaulle (Roissy). Passport control times vary, averaging between 30 to 60 minutes.
Train: The RER Line B, operational from 4:50 a.m. to 11:50 p.m., connects the airport to central Paris in about 30 minutes. Although not luxurious, it's a cost-effective option, priced at approximately 12€.
Bus: RoissyBus or OrlyBus provides a relaxed hour-long journey to various Parisian stops, costing around 14€. For airport transfers, check Paris Aéroport's options.
Taxis: Two taxi lines, serving Paris and suburbs, await. Ensure your driver accepts cards, especially at Orly. G7 taxis offer reliability, recommended for groups or those with ample luggage. Fixed costs from airports range from 32€ to 58€.
Chauffeur-Driven Cars: For a VIP experience, consider Laisser Passer for luxury rentals or Paris Limousine Service for chauffeur-driven limousines.
On Foot: Discover Paris intimately on foot, especially since it's a compact capital with numerous pedestrian-friendly streets. Comfortable attire and breaks are essential for an enjoyable experience.
Taxis (vs. Ubers): Paris taxis, often black with a green light when available, can be challenging to find, particularly in the evening. G7 taxis are reliable and cost-effective compared to Ubers, providing a preferable option.
Subway: The métro, operating from 5:30 a.m. to 1:20 a.m. (until 2:15 a.m. on weekends), offers a fast and economical way to navigate Paris. A single ticket costs 1.90€, and ten tickets are 14.90€. Line 6 provides a scenic route above ground, including views of the Eiffel Tower.
Subway Tips:
The Paris subway boasts 16 lines and over 300 stations.
Line 1 serves key locations and is the busiest.
In 2022, traditional tickets were replaced by 'Navigo Easy' credit card-sized travel cards.
Doors don't open automatically; push the button to enter/exit.
Beware of pickpockets; keep bags closed and secure.
Limited air conditioning; be prepared on hot days.
Accessibility is limited; opt for taxis or buses if needed.
Bus: While buses are not a personal favorite due to waiting times and confusing schedules, they offer accessibility advantages. Bus stops are widespread, and Navigo tickets can be used.
RER (Commuter Train): The RER system operates express trains within Paris and into suburbs, providing a faster alternative to subways.
Tram: Paris revitalized its tramway system with trams numbered T1 to T11, offering an above-ground experience within the city limits.
Bike: Paris boasts over 430 kilometers of cycling paths. Utilize Vélib, the city's bike-share system, or other options like Lime for a delightful biking experience.
Boat Cruises: For a unique perspective, book a short cruise on the Seine with Les Vedettes du Pont Neuf, showcasing iconic landmarks at sunset.
Renting a Boat: Enjoy leisurely boat rides on Le Canal de l’Ourcq through Marin d’Eau Douce, a unique experience away from tourist hubs.
