Germany's oldest town and one of the most beautiful ones too!

Trier is compact and intensely historical, so plan one to two days to see the essentials: Porta Nigra, the Roman baths and the cathedral are all within easy walking distance. Wear comfortable shoes because cobbled streets and a few steep stretches make long strolls tiring, and check museum opening times in advance since many have limited hours or are closed on Monday. Small cafes, wine taverns and markets often prefer cash, and if you drive use a park and ride or a public garage to avoid narrow streets. If you like wine, slot in a short Moselle valley tasting or a riverside bike ride for the full experience.
