Portheras Cove

Hidden beaches of Cornwall

Cornwall, United Kingdom

Portheras Cove is a hidden cove tucked between rugged cliffs on Cornwall’s north coast — not a place you reach by accident. A steep descent and lack of facilities have preserved its wild, untouched character. Pale sand and turquoise water contrast beautifully with dark rocks and the constant movement of the ocean. It’s the perfect spot for silence, slowing down, and reconnecting with nature. Portheras Cove is best appreciated by those who enjoy stepping off the beaten path and looking for more than just views.

The best access is from the free parking near Pendeen Lighthouse, where a few parking spaces are available. A little further along, there is another small parking area just before joining the South West Coast Path. From the clifftop, the beach is visible from above, and a narrow path leads down to a small footbridge where a stream meets the sea — the view is absolutely stunning. This is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Cornwall. On the beach, you’ll find shallow caves and grottos covered in ferns and moss, perfect for dramatic shots taken from inside the cave with the beach in the background. Be cautious near the cliffs — the rock is fragile, and there is a real risk of rockfalls.
