Just off the sands of Derrynane Beach, you'll find the beautifully haunting ruins of Derrynane Abbey on its own little island. To get there, you'll need to wait for low tide to walk across the sandy stretch from the beach, which only adds to the magic of the place. It's a short, easy stroll from the car park, maybe 5-10 minutes to the beach and then across to the island. Once there, you can wander through the roofless remains of the old church and explore the historic graveyard, where the wife of the famous Daniel O'Connell is buried. It's a peaceful, atmospheric spot with incredible views out over the Atlantic.
