Qo'sh Madrasa in Bukhara, Uzbekistan, consists of two madrasas facing each other - Modar-i-Khan and Abdullah Khan. Built by Abdullah Shaybani Khan, the Modar-i-Khan is smaller and simpler, dedicated to his mother. In contrast, the Abdullah Khan Madrasa is grander, showcasing intricate girikh designs and a unique octagonal chamber known as "Abdullah's Lantern." Abdullah's bold architectural choices, like orienting the building towards cardinal points instead of Mecca, reflect his self-importance and desire for a lavish memorial mausoleum. The madrasa offers an adventurous exploration of 16th-century architecture, with unexpected access to hidden corners and rooftop views.
