Casina delle Civette, the Italian for 'Owls' House or Cottage', is a stunning 19th century Swiss cottage located in Rome's Villa Torlonia park. The former residence of the Torlonia Prince, it has been lovingly restored to show off its art nouveau and Liberty style influences with plenty of dazzling mosaics, bright colours, and many stained glass doors and windows. There's lots to explore in each intricately decorated corner, including the Room of the Nail with its giant nail-shaped window, the Dining Hall with its intricate wooden wainscoting, and the 24-Hour Parlor with its colourful inside dome. Visitors can marvel at the ancient artwork, such as a marble fireplace built in the Renaissance style, and modern works like Paolo Paschetto's detailing a Biblical theme. Overall, Casina delle Civette is a fantastic place to visit and discover an unexpected side of Rome.
