The magnificent Westminster Abbey is one of the world's most recognizable landmarks. Located in the City of Westminster, England, it is an Anglican church most well known as the site of multiple royal weddings and coronations. Founded originally c. 959, the abbey has seen many changes over the course of its 1000 year history. Most recently, the abbey was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987 due to its historic and symbolic significance. The Gothic architecture of Westminster Abbey is truly breathtaking, featuring Perpendicular Gothic elements and some Romanesque styles. Famous burials include over 3,300 monarchs, poets laureate, musicians, scientists and more, including the Unknown Warrior. Visitors to Westminster Abbey will witness centuries of British history brought to life in this impressive landmark.
