Getting Around Porto
The easiest ways to move around the city
Foodietravellersguide
Porto, Portugal
Porto’s center is very walkable, but the hills can be tiring after a full day of exploring.
For longer journeys:
Use the Metro for airport connections and outer neighborhoods
Use Bolt or Uber for cheap rides around the city
Trams are scenic but mostly tourist-focused rather than practical transport
The metro from the airport into the city is usually the cheapest and easiest option.
If you’re using public transport regularly, buy an Andante card and load journeys onto it instead of buying single tickets each time.
Historic areas like Ribeira have steep cobbled streets, so luggage can be awkward. If possible, avoid dragging heavy suitcases through the old town.
Tip: Porto looks small on a map, but the hills slow you down more than expected – plan fewer things per day than you normally would.
