What to order:

The pica-pau and garlic prawns were both excellent and what we’d recommend ordering first. If you’re hungry, add the famous prego sandwich too, which is one of the restaurant’s signature dishes and a favourite with regulars.

Why it’s here:

Portugália is one of Lisbon’s most famous beer halls and has been serving locals since 1925. The historic tiled interior, lively atmosphere and classic Portuguese dishes make it a great place to experience traditional Lisbon dining. It’s touristy these days, but for good reason.

Tip:

Come hungry and don’t rush. This is more of a sit-down meal than a quick stop. Pair your food with an imperial (small draft beer) and soak up the atmosphere. If you’re visiting Lisbon for the first time, it’s a fun way to experience one of the city’s classic institutions.
