Sylvenstein Lake, located in Bavaria, Germany, is a stunning man-made reservoir surrounded by the picturesque Karwendel mountains. Built in the 1950s for flood protection and hydropower, this turquoise-blue lake is now a beloved destination for hiking, swimming, and mountain biking.

To create the reservoir, the original village of Fall had to be relocated. The ruins of the old village still lie at the bottom of the lake. Every few years, when the water is drained for maintenance, the remains of the sunken village briefly resurface — offering a haunting glimpse into the past. Today, the new village of Fall lies just a few hundred meters from its original site.

With its scenic bridge views, quiet coves, and alpine backdrop, Sylvenstein Lake is not only a place of natural beauty but also rich in history and local lore.
