Chianti Rule #1: This Is a Home, Not a Bar

In Chianti, a winery is someone’s land, family history, and life’s work—not a tasting room conveyor belt.

Proper etiquette that elevates the experience:

  • Always arrive on time (or 5 minutes early). Late arrivals break the rhythm of the estate.

  • Greet the host before taking photos. A simple “Buongiorno” goes a long way.

  • Taste, don’t rush. This isn’t about how many wines you try—it’s about understanding one place deeply.

In Chianti, respect opens more doors than money.

How to behave like an insider

  • Ask place-based questions:
    “Which parcel is this from?”
    “How did this vintage behave?”

  • Hold your glass by the stem, sip slowly, and pause before commenting.

  • Finish with gratitude, not negotiation—buying a bottle is appreciation, not obligation.

👉 You’re a guest first, a consumer second.

The chef’s secret
Never wear heavy perfume, skip strong coffee right before tasting, and eat lightly—bread, olive oil, or simple cheese is ideal.

👉 A clean palate is a sign of respect.
