Beware of the famous Iceland traffic jams (sheep crossing)
Iceland is almost completely cashless
F Roads are off-limits to 2WD vehicles
Downtown Reykjavik does not have public restrooms - you'll likely need to ask a restaurant or cafe to use theirs
Get an eSIM before traveling to avoid high phone bill
Invest in travel insurance before your trip
Be careful when opening your car/van door during high winds (winds can be so powerful it can actually rip your door off)
There are plenty of children's parks along the Ring Road - I recommend stopping frequently to get your kids wiggles out
There is one tunnel along the Ring Road that requires a toll - Vaðlaheiðargöng Tunnel near Akureyri - in which you have to pay about $16 USD. There is no toll booth and you can pay online 24 hours before or after entering the tunnel.
