Description:
Goðafoss, known as the “Waterfall of the Gods,” is one of Iceland’s most beautiful and historically important waterfalls. Located in North Iceland between Akureyri and Lake Mývatn, it is about 30 meters wide and 12 meters high, with water cascading in a wide horseshoe shape. The name comes from a legend that Iceland’s leader threw his pagan idols into the falls when the country converted to Christianity around the year 1000. Visitors can view the waterfall from both sides, with easy walking paths and viewpoints. In winter, the falls often freeze into dramatic ice formations, making it especially magical.

Price:
There is no entrance fee to visit Goðafoss. Parking is free, and the walk from the parking lot to the viewpoints takes only a few minutes. Guided tours that include Goðafoss (often combined with Mývatn or Akureyri) typically cost $70–120 USD.
