In the north of Karpathos where you can't even get by car, you will find an ancient ancient city called Vroukounda. The city has a strategic location overlooking the sea which was very important at that time. The city is way over 3500 years old and nobody lives here anymore, most residents left for Olympos. Today, Vroukounda remains an intriguing archaeological site. The old city doesn't have lots of visitors since you can get there only by hiking.

If you're up for the 3,5-4 hour hike (in total) then this is the perfect activity to do when visiting Karpathos. You can drive your car up to the village of Avlona, park there and start your amazing hike towards Vroukounda!
