Travel Tip: Don't Forget Water Shoes

One simple item that you'll use every day of this itinerary.

If we could recommend just one thing to pack for this trip, it would be a good pair of water shoes for every member of your family. We wore ours almost every single day...while tubing in Townsend, splashing through creeks in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, exploring waterfalls, climbing behind Hooker Falls, and sliding down both Cashiers Sliding Rock and Sliding Rock in Pisgah National Forest.

Many of these adventures involve wet rocks, slippery creek beds, and uneven terrain. A comfortable pair of water shoes provides better traction, protects your feet, and makes it much easier to jump into every adventure without worrying about sharp rocks or constantly changing shoes. Trust us—this is one item you'll be glad you packed.
