Royal Run (free to watch)

May 25th 2026

These unique walking and running family events of 1km, 5km, and 10km were started by Crown Prince Frederik, the now King of Denmark, as a way to get everyone in Denmark moving. The host city changes each year, apart from Copenhagen, where you can cross the finishing line waving at the royal palace – and the entire royal family will join the race!

Copenhagen's biggest street party and club festival, Distortion, takes place every year in May/June and attracts nearly 300,000 people to its street parties, dance, art rock, freestyle hip hop, tech-house, polka and street art. In June, cycling fans can witness the launch of Copenhagen Sprint, a premier event on the UCI World Tour calendar. Beginning in Roskilde, an ancient city home to Viking history, this race will wind through Frederikssund, Hillerød, and Humlebæk, ending with a thrilling loop through Copenhagen. Designed for the world’s top sprinters, Copenhagen Sprint will offer an exciting spectacle of speed and skill. Festivities throughout the weekend will celebrate Danish bike culture, including a free public race where locals and visitors alike can ride the same route as the pros.

  • Be aware that parts of inner Copenhagen will be closed off due to the event.

Sankt Hans / Summer solstice (free)

June 23rd

Sankt Hans aften (The eve of Saint John’s) also known as summer solstice, is an evening of combined celebration of Saint John the Baptist, who was supposedly born on June 24th, and a celebration of the shortest night of the year (the sun rises at 4.25am and sets at 9.58pm). It’s celebrated all over Denmark with bonfires, speeches by local mayors and Danish midsummer songs.

Most cities host one big bonfire where it’s tradition to put a straw witch inside (The myth goes that when the witch is burnt, she flies to Bloksbjerg in Germany, which was through to be the location of a witch gathering) - but today many leave out the witch-part.

  • Please be aware that there will be a lot of people in the streets - there might be delays in public transport and traffic on the roads.

Best places to watch the bonfire:

It’s free to watch and there’s also lots of food, drinks and games stalls!

  • Bryggen: fire is lit at 9pm

  • Reffen Street food: fire is lit at 9.45pm

  • Frederiksberg Park: fire is lit at 9pm

  • Nordhavn: fire is lit at 9pm

Copenhell

June 24th - 27th 2026

Copenhell is an annual outdoor rock and metal festival. During four days in June, Refshaleøen and the former B&W shipyard in the Danish capital transform into a haven for metalheads worldwide. The festival is one of the most popular metal events in Northern Europe.

Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series (free)

27th of june @3pm

Copenhagen hosts of the most architecturally striking settings on the World Series calendar, as the divers jump from the roop of the Copenhagen Opera House, directly into the Copenhagen Harbour.

I recommend finding a spot at Ofelia plads directly across from the Opera house.

Musik i gentofte

July 31st - august 1st

A new, modern city festival for the local area and the wider Copenhagen region — an event aiming to re-establish Gentofte as a concert municipality and breathe new cultural life into a legendary venue. Two days filled with Danish hip hop, pop, R&B and crowd-favourite singalong hits, with a lineup that spans genres and generations. It's an alternative to a full camping festival: great music, then back to your own bed.
