Mundo Alpaca in Cusco is a great little stop if you want to see alpacas up close and learn about traditional Andean textiles without leaving the city. It’s educational, photogenic, and easy to fit into a walking itinerary.

The space is free to enter and located just a short walk from Cusco’s historic centre (around the San Blas area), so you can easily visit on foot while exploring nearby streets and markets. Inside, you’ll find a small courtyard where alpacas are kept, along with displays explaining the differences between alpaca and vicuña wool and how fibres are traditionally processed.

One of the highlights is being able to feed the alpacas, which you’re allowed to do using the food provided by staff (they’ll let you know what’s okay and help if needed). The alpacas are very used to people and make for great photos — especially if you visit earlier in the day when it’s quieter.

There’s also an on-site boutique selling ethically made alpaca products like scarves, jumpers, and blankets. No pressure to buy, but it’s a nice place to pick up a quality souvenir if you’re interested.

If you’re wandering Cusco and want a quick, fun, and hands-on cultural stop, Mundo Alpaca is well worth adding to your day
