Look, I’m not exactly a political girlie, but while I was in Canberra exploring the city, I figured I might as well drop by Parliament House since it was right there. Parliament House is where all the political action happens in Australia, think of it as the HQ for the Parliament and government leaders. Perched on Capital Hill, the building is hard to miss with its distinctive curved walls and towering flagpole. Inside, it’s a maze of over 4,700 rooms, including the House of Representatives and Senate chambers, all decked out with marble staircases and a stunning Great Hall featuring a striking tapestry.

You can enter through the forecourt, which has symbolic red gravel and a mosaic representing Aboriginal connections to the land. I found that just walking around the exterior was enough for me. If you’re interested in history, the old Parliament House is located right down the road and is also worth a visit. It’s free to explore and offers a glimpse into Australia’s political past with its well-preserved furniture and artifacts, frozen in time.
