How long to stay in Hanoi
Experience the city without rushing
Foodietravellersguide
Hanoi, Vietnam
Hanoi can be experienced at lots of different paces, and the “right” amount of time really depends on how you want to travel.
For most first-timers, 2–3 full days gives you enough time to explore the Old Quarter, enjoy the food scene, wander the French Quarter, visit key temples and museums, and soak up the atmosphere without feeling rushed.
If you want to slow down more – lingering in cafés, exploring hidden lanes, doing more food stops, or relaxing between meals, 3–4 days is a nice rhythm.
And if you’re planning day trips (Ha Long Bay, Ninh Binh, Sapa) or want a deeper northern Vietnam experience, extending your stay gives room to breathe and explore beyond the city.
City focus: short and sweet in 2 days
Easy balance: 3–4 days
Deeper exploration: 5+ days
If you’re unsure how to pace your days, our itineraries are designed to fit naturally into a 2–4 day stay without rushing.
