Malaga, Spain

Málaga has an incredible food culture, especially when it comes to seafood and simple Andalusian dishes. These are some local favourites you’ll see all over the city.

Espetos

Probably the most iconic food in Málaga. These are sardines skewered on sticks and grilled over open fires, usually cooked right on the beach.

You’ll mostly find them in beach restaurants in Pedregalejo and El Palo.

Boquerones

These are small anchovies that are either fried (boquerones fritos) or marinated in vinegar and garlic.

The fried version is a classic tapa served in many local bars.

Fritura Malagueña

A mixed plate of lightly fried seafood that can include small fish, squid, anchovies and shrimp.

It’s a great way to try several types of seafood in one dish.

Porra Antequerana

A thick cold tomato soup similar to gazpacho, but creamier and richer. It’s usually topped with ham and boiled egg.

Perfect during Málaga’s hot summer months.
