Tips for hiking Arthur Seat
1. Wear Proper Footwear
Sturdy trainers or hiking boots are ideal.
The paths are rocky, uneven, and can get muddy, especially after rain.
2. Choose Your Route Wisely
There are multiple trails with varying steepness:
From Holyrood Palace: Steep but scenic (main route)
From Dunsapie Loch: Easier and more gradual
Long loop around the base: For a slower, scenic option
🕒 Allow 1.5–2 hours round trip, including breaks and photo stops.
3. Check the Weather First
It can be very windy at the summit.
Bring a light jacket or windbreaker even in summer.
Don’t go up during high winds, storms, or icy conditions.
4. Start Early or Go for Sunset
Sunrise = fewer crowds and epic light over the city
Sunset = dramatic lighting but bring a torch or headlamp for the way down
