Hirokigama is a family-run kiln where tradition meets a playful, modern sensibility. Led by Hiroki Teramoto alongside his wife and daughter, the studio is unique for its "washi-zome" (paper-dyeing) technique, which uses hand-cut stencils to create soft, textured patterns that resemble watercolor paintings on the porcelain. While they honor the sturdy, functional roots of Tobe-yaki, their work stands out for its charming and approachable designs, featuring whimsical motifs like cats, flowers, and geometric shapes. This creative blend of delicate artistry and daily practicality makes their pottery a favorite for those looking to add a touch of warmth and personality to their tabletop.
