The Demilitarized Zone is the area between North & South Korea. Although you can drive yourself to Imjingak Park, you cannot go into the DMZ itself without a tour guide. I've gone twice now, and this is one of my top recommendations for anyone visiting Korea, both educational and meaningful. In addition to learning more about South Korea's history, I felt we had plenty of time to explore and take in each of the stops (including Imjingak Park, The 3rd Tunnel, Dora Observatory, and a DMZ Cafe).
