Borgarvirki is a must-see natural feature in North Iceland that has historical ties to the early Vikings. This majestic volcanic plug stands at 177 metres (580 feet) above sea-level, and its made up of several columnar strata. Historically, it served as a pen for sheep and, if you believe to the legends, as an impressive fortress for locals as it may be inferred from its renovations of walls and stairs.
