This is one of our absolute favourite ever UK adventures - Fell Pony Trekking Across The Lake District.

Fell ponies are indigenous to Cumbria and The Lakes; they are strong, hardy and very intelligent… what’s more they are becoming increasingly rare. And so, Fell Pony Adventures founder, Tom Lloyd wants to change that. He wants to raise their profile and use them to help reconnect people with nature. Based near Windermere, Tom takes people out on treks, sometimes up to 4 days, across the fells, traversing this dramatic corner of England alongside these beautiful ponies.

We were short on time and so headed out on just a one day trek. Leading a pony each we wound our way up into the fells with Tom and his daughter, Flo, hearing about the ponies, their history and everything you could possibly wish to know about the area.

We traced centuries old tracks through the forests, eventually making our way to a beautiful little lake for lunch. There, Tom and Flo set about cooking us delicious a meal that the ponies had carried up.

The afternoon saw us crossing streams, taking in the incredible views and eventually making our way back down the valley.

There was something so calming about the experience, trekking along at a slow and steady pace, taking in our glorious English surroundings.

If we had had more time we most certainly would have done longer - This is a special experience!
