There are a few things that I frequent get asked about regarding travelling Vietnam with kids, so I thought I would put together a little FAQ section.

🛳️ Which Halong Bay Cruise did you book?
While we booked our Halong Bay Cruise with Rosa Cruise we actually ended up cruising with Dora Cruise. We're not sure how we ended up on a different cruise, we're wondering if both cruises were at low capacity and the decided to run one cruise combining both passengers. But at the end of the day I think either of these options would have worked great for our family!
💰 What was your budget for your trip?
This is one of the hardest questions to answer, partially because we didn't track every dollar spent and partially because finally budgets always depend on so many factors. However, not including flights we spent around $5,000 AUD on accommodation, food & drink, internal transportation & experiences for our family of 4 over 3.5 weeks.
Please keep in mind, though, that prices have likely increased since our trip as inflation has been insane!
👶🏼 Should I take the pram to Vietnam?
Deciding whether to take a pram along to Vietnam can be a difficult decision, so it'll come down to how much you'll use it in transit (particularly airports) and which cities you're visiting.
We found we were able to use the pram quite a bit in Hoi An, Hue and Da Nang. However, Hanoi and rural areas were quite difficult to move around with a pram. So if you're visiting these with a little one, I'd recommend taking a carrier so you can get around more freely.
🍕 How hard was it to find food for the kids?
Our 4 year old at the time of our trip was a super picky eater! We found we ended up eating out at Western Restaurants quite a few times for him (even though they were usually quite a bit pricier than Vietnamese).
We would often feed the kids a sandwich or something simple before going out for dinner. Our kids also loved the yoghurt we found in the 7/11s and that was always a great on-the-go snack for them (maybe pack a spoon for this!)
👦🏼 Are there any kid friendly restaurants?
Of course! We found plenty of restaurants in every location we visited that served both Vietnamese and Western food options.
🥜 Are there any allergen friendly restaurants?
As our family doesn't have to consider allergies when eating out, this isn't something we looked out for on our trip. However, I did some research which suggests that allergen friendly restaurants are much easier to find in the major cities.
Also, since so many dishes in Vietnam are rice based finding GF options is relatively easy (however you'll still need to be careful for gluten containing soy sauce). Nut allergies are widely accommodated for, as with vegan and vegetarian options.
📍 Which location would you recommend for visiting with kids?
Our favourite locations for our family were Ninh Binh & Hoi An. Ninh Binh for the laid back vibe, surrounded by incredible nature and kid-friendly adventures. Hoi An for the family-friendly, walkable city filled with beauty and culture.
