How to manage your cash and cards in Fiji

Currency exchange

I've found you will generally get a better rate at Nadi airport, rather than at home before you leave.

ATM withdrawals

You can withdraw cash from your home card in Fiji ATM's - The Fijian banks usually charge a FJD$10-15 withdrawal fee each time. I usually get a few hundred out at a time to save repeated bank fees.

*Check with your bank that you can use your card internationally (sometimes you need to tell them before you travel) and their fees.

Cash

Always carry cash, for transport (no Uber or card transactions here), food stalls, market shopping, tips, etc. You might need more than you think. Keep an eye out for the commemorative $7 note that celebrates the gold medal win by the Fiji men's rugby sevens team at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics. Yes, it's legal tender!

Cards

Most large commercial businesses and resorts take cards; however, the surcharge can be up to 4-5%! Locals don't tend to use cards as readily as tourists do back home, so cashiers might call for assistance to process them.
