The Anayet Lakes. 🏞️ At the foot of the beautiful Anayet Lakes, we can admire the peak of the same name, Anayet (2,545m), and the colossal Midi D’Ossau (2,884m) on the French side.

Very close to the French border and with the nearby ski resort of Formigal (Huesca), this lovely excursion of moderate duration is nestled, not too demanding physically for hikers. As a high mountain area, it is advisable to do it in the summer following the GR-11 trail.

How to get there?

Just follow the directions to get to the Formigal Ski Resort. From Huesca, take the Mudejar highway (A-23) to the town of Nueno, continue to Sabiñanigo on the N-330, then take a detour towards Sallent de Gallego to the right, continue to Biescas on the N-260. Take the road to France A-136 at the crossroads after that town, in Formigal we will take the exit from the roundabout that leads us towards Portalet. Before reaching it, we will stop the vehicle at the access to the Formigal Ski Resort called "Anayet".

Start -> Corral de las Mulas

We can park our vehicle, if we have arrived by one, in a small clearing, at the edge of the road towards Portalet next to the asphalted path that leads to the part of the Ski resort named Anayet, how curious! 🚗

The asphalted path is closed off-season by a fence, so we will progress along it towards the resort complex.

We will reach the first buildings and ski lifts of the ski resort and continue advancing to our right where the GR-11 trail will begin to be clearly distinguished. I do not include any photos of the ski resort.

Next to the trail we walk on, flows the stream of water from the Culibillas Ravine which suddenly turns right like our trail, an orientation we will not abandon. We will walk along the ravine until just before taking the final steep slope that will give us access to the lakes.

We arrive at a clearing where the largest Anayet Lake is located, we can then lie down on the meadow and enjoy nature for a while, the views are fantastic: a few meters away the Anayet Peak (2,545m), the Anayet Summit (2,559m), the Midi D’Ossau (2,884m). 🌄

Once there, it is most common to make a circular route around the largest lake, approaching to contemplate the smaller lake during the journey. The most intrepid can use the lakes as a starting point to reach the nearby Anayet Peak (2,545m) or the Anayet Summit (2,559m). 🏔️
