Muri Beach is the vibrant focal point of Rarotonga's eastern coast, famous for its expansive, shallow lagoon that glows in an almost unbelievable shade of electric turquoise. The calm, protected water is framed by four offshore motu (islets), creating a natural playground that is shielded from the rougher ocean swells beyond the reef. Out of all the coastal stretches on the island, this is the ultimate hub for getting out on the water, offering a lively contrast to the quieter, more secluded beaches nearby.

The best way to experience the lagoon is to rent a kayak or stand-up paddleboard from the beachfront and make the easy paddle over to Koromiri Motu for a few hours of quiet exploration. The water between the main beach and the islets is remarkably clear, with a soft sandy bottom that makes it perfect for a relaxed swim or wading out during low tide.

Watching the sunrise over the offshore islands from the water's edge provides incredible golden light that reflects beautifully across the glassy, undisturbed surface of the lagoon.
