Getting There & Getting Around

Access to Malta is pretty easy. It is small enough to make transportation simple.

Malta

You can reach Malta by:

  • Ferry from Sicily (great if you’re already in Italy)

  • Direct flights from many European and North African cities

  • Connecting flights if traveling from further abroad

The island is easy to access and even easier to explore.

Once there, here's how to move around in Malta:

Finding your way around is quite easy here. You can go for cabs or buses. I went for public transportation and used the bus to get to my hotel and travel between towns. You can download their local Tallinja app or check routes and timetables on their local website. Boat/Ferry rides are also quite cheap and popular to go from/to Valletta and Sliema, and even reach other cities and islands that are part of the Maltese islands. You can get your ticket to travel between cities on the spot and it’s about 3 euros per person for a round trip. For those further away trips to Gozo or Comino Islands, it’s better to book online ahead of time via tour operators.

So to recap:

  • Public buses (affordable and well connected; use the Tallinja app for details)

  • Short ferry rides between cities like Valletta and Sliema

  • Boats / Guided Tours to Gozo and Comino

  • Taxis and ride shares
