Getting There:

• By Car: From Yuzawa Station, it’s about a 45-minute drive. If coming from the Sukawa Interchange on the Yuzawa-Yokote Road, it takes around 40 minutes by car. Once you park, it’s a 15-minute walk to reach the main area.

• Note: The road leading to Kawarage Jigoku is closed in winter, typically from early November to early May, due to heavy snowfall.

What to Expect:
The area is dominated by gray-white lava rock, with steam and volcanic gases rising from vents, giving it an otherworldly appearance. The strong smell of sulfur and the absence of vegetation add to its eerie atmosphere. Nearby, Kawarage Oyutaki Falls offers a unique experience where the hot spring water flows into a natural basin, creating a rare open-air bathing spot during summer months.
