The Þingvellir National Park in Iceland is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a living reminder of the past. The park marks the site of the Althing assembly, an ancient open-air gathering that took place between 930 and 1798 where laws were established and disputes were settled. The property includes the remains of the original booths used by participants during the assembly as well as other archaeological sites showing evidence of 1,000 years of cultural activity. Abundant with scenic views, the park covers an area of thirty-three square kilometers and is home to diverse flora and fauna. Visitors can explore its valleys, lakes, moors and mountains or join in fun activities such as swimming, camping, hiking, and horseback riding. Although full of Icelandic history, the Þingvellir National Park is still alive with exciting experiences for all ages!
