The Namib Desert Horses are thought to be Africa’s only herd of feral horses and one of the world’s most isolated populations. It is believed these horses are descendants of breeding stock released into the wild by German cavalry during World War I. They travel in small to large groups, and cover a range up to 20 kilometers between water sources. The horses are monitored by the Namibia Wild Horses Foundation which provides advise and assistance to the Namibian government about managing the population to ensure their ongoing health and prosperity. Visitors to the unforgettable Namib Desert can spot these majestic creatures from self-drive safari cars or as part of an organized tour, making it a thrilling adventure for any horse lover.
