Kerlingafjoll is one of my favorite places in Iceland.

Ideally you will spend 1-2 days here. You can camp, rent a cabin, sleep dorm style, or book the new mountain resort.

There are many hikes you can take in the area, just speak to the rangers about what is best for the daily conditions. You can hike or drive to the Kerlingarfjoll Geothermal mountains which is extraordinary. If you leave this area only doing one thing it must be to walk around this area!

There is also a natural hot spring about a 20 minute walk from the accommodation area. This one is a must visit!!

You need a 4x4 to get here but there are no river crossings so it's possible with any 4x4 car. The road is REALLY rough so I do not recommend a smaller vehicle. The season dates are flexible so just check road.is to see if road F35 is open.
