Aït Benhaddou is one of the most iconic and photogenic places in Morocco. This ancient fortified village, built almost entirely from clay and mud brick, sits along an old caravan route between Marrakech and the Sahara. Walking through the narrow alleys feels like stepping back in time, especially with the dramatic desert mountains surrounding the village.
The location became world-famous through movies and series like Gladiator, Game of Thrones, The Mummy and many more. Despite its popularity, it still keeps its authentic atmosphere and traditional Berber charm.
There are also small local shops, rooftop cafés and beautiful viewpoints all around the area.
Best visited early morning or sunset
Can get crowded after 11 am
Entry to the village is free
Some museums or houses charge small entrance fees
