Just a 15–20 minute boat trip from the mainland, Skomer Island offers one of the most unforgettable wildlife experiences in Britain. Located less than a mile off the beautiful Pembrokeshire coast, this National Nature Reserve is peaceful, wild and completely unspoilt. Surrounded by dramatic sea cliffs and wildlife-rich waters, it’s best known for its Atlantic Puffins, but there is far more to see, including Guillemots, Razorbills, Manx Shearwaters, Fulmars and Gannets. You may also spot Dolphins, Harbour Porpoises, Atlantic Grey Seals and the unique Skomer Vole. It’s a true paradise for nature lovers, photographers, walkers and anyone seeking a sense of solitude.

The 5-hour day trip includes a short 15–20 minute boat ride each way and approximately 4.5 hours on the island to explore at your own pace. Between April and August, boats depart Martin’s Haven every 30 minutes between 10:00am and 12:00pm, with return boats running from 3:00pm onwards. Your return time is allocated based on your outward journey and cannot be changed. There are no sailings on Mondays, except for the Whitsun Bank Holiday (25.05.2026). In September, boats run less frequently depending on demand, and there are no day boats on Fridays.

Puffins begin arriving in mid-April, are most reliably present from May to July, start leaving in mid-July and are usually gone by the end of July. Even outside peak puffin season, the island remains an exceptional wildlife destination.

Skomer is open from April to August (Tuesday to Sunday) and operates on a reduced schedule in September. Landings are operated exclusively by Pembrokeshire Islands Boat Trips, and tickets — which include both the boat crossing and landing fee — cost £24 per adult.

Parking is managed by the National Trust at two nearby Pay & Display car parks. Martin’s Haven is the most convenient option, just a five-minute walk from the boat departure point, while Marloes Sands and Mere is around a 45-minute walk along the coast path but offers spectacular views towards Skomer and Skokholm Island, as well as excellent birdwatching opportunities.

Whether you’re visiting for the Puffins, the breathtaking coastal scenery or the peaceful island atmosphere, Skomer is a truly magical place — full of wildlife, discovery and adventure.
