Summer (July – August) is easily the most popular time to visit Dublin with its long, sunny days (up to 17.5 hours of daylight at solstice!) and less rainfall – but this time brings the most crowds.  Spring (April–June) and early fall (September–October) are truly some of the best times to visit though, when the weather is mild, the crowds are smaller than peak summer, and there’s still plenty of daylight to explore. Yes, it’ll likely rain a little (that’s Ireland for you) but you’ll still see a decent amount of sun mixed in with the cloudy days. Tip: Planning to go around St. Patrick’s Day? Expect HUGE crowds, a festive vibe, and high prices – but it’s absolutely a bucket list experience!

Give yourself at least 3 days to get through the best things to do in Dublin. That’ll give you time to explore downtown, take a few tours, and enjoy a couple of nights out. If you can stretch it to 4 or 5 days, even better! Dublin makes a great base for quick day trips, too.

✈️ How to Get to Dublin, Ireland Getting to Dublin is easy!

The city is home to Dublin Airport (DUB), a major international hub just 30 minutes from downtown. Direct flights are available from the US, UK, and across Europe. From the airport, hop on the Aircoach or Dublin Express for a budget-friendly ride into the city.

🚗 How to Get Around Dublin, Ireland Dublin is quite walkable, especially in the city center. You can also use:

• DART (train): great for coastal spots and nearby towns.

• LUAS (tram): handy for getting across town.

• Buses: extensive network, but bring coins or a Leap Card.

• Taxis & Ubers: available, but not always cheap.

And for tourists? The Hop-On Hop-Off Bus is surprisingly useful – more on that below! But, if you’re looking to explore more outside of the city center and do some daytrips, you can also rent a car to get around Dublin. Traffic can be busy but not terrible, and parking is expensive but you can easily find parking garages. Tip: remember in Ireland they drive on the opposite side of the road than in the USA!

🛌 Where to Stay in Dublin, Ireland There are tons of fantastic places to stay in Dublin; but for a city-centric trip I’d definitely recommend trying to be as close to the city center as possible so that you can easily walk or catch public transport.
