Plaza de Mayo is a historic city square in Buenos Aires, Argentina, known for its political significance and iconic landmarks. This is a major jumping off point for many important sites and one of the first places you should go once you're in Buenos Aires.

Stand in the middle and you have the Presidential palace in front of you, the famous pink palace where Madonna belted out "Don't Cry For Me, Argentina." Behind you is the Cabildo, the Spanish seat of government during colonial rule and the Metropolitan Cathedral.

The Square is a place of protest, where the people come to lay their claims before the president before marching up Avenida de Mayo to the Congressional Palace. The Madres de La Plaza de Mayo have marched here for decades, calling the names of their missing children and grandchildren from the 1970's military dictatorship.
