The Glenfinnan Viaduct doesn't need introducing for fans of Harry Potter.

The viaduct spans over 416 yards long and towers at a height of 100 feet, overlooking the River Finnan. It is the longest concrete railway bridge in Scotland!

Lots of people come her to see the train cross - you can check out the timetable in the link.

Our advice is to be there for when the train leaves Fort William if you want to see the steam and to do this ensure you are at the carpark a good 30 minutes before it departs (sometimes even earlier). Why? Because a) the car park fills up fast these days due to popularity and b) it takes about 20 minutes or so to talk up to the viewpoint along the now man-made path to the bridge. For the morning train currently that would mean arriving at about 9am.

There are other places to see the train on the way up to Mallaig (including at Mallaig station itself) should you miss out.
