Warm days, cooler nights, low rainfall, long daylight hours.

South Island (Victoria—Nanaimo): 20–30°C

Central/North Island: 18–28°C

Strathcona & Mountains: 10–20°C

Coastal Fog: Common in mornings on the West Coast (Tofino, Port Renfrew).

Traveler Tips:

Bring sunscreen + bug spray

Lakes and rivers are warm enough for swimming

Wildfire restrictions may apply — check current bans

Fall (September–November)

What to Expect:

Crisp air, heavy rainfall beginning late September, stunning fall colors.

Temps: 7–18°C

Storm Season Begins: West coast storms start in late fall.

Traveler Tips:

Waterproof everything

Roads can flood — check conditions

Perfect for waterfalls & moody rainforest photography

Winter (December–February)

What to Expect:

Rainy on the coast, snowy in the mountains, and in the northern interior.

South Island: 2–10°C, mostly rain

North Island & Inland: -5 to 5°C

Strathcona: Heavy snowfall — chains required

Storm Watching: Tofino & Port Renfrew are experiencing peak dramatic waves

Traveler Tips:

Pack waterproof boots and layers

Logging roads can become icy or washed out

 Expect power outages in storms

Spring (March–May)

What to Expect:

Rain easing, longer days, early wildflowers, waterfalls at their strongest.

Temps: 8–18°C

Weather Swings: Sun, rain, wind — sometimes all in an hour

Bugs: Blackflies & mosquitoes emerge in May
