The Akureyri Botanical Garden, established in 1910, is one of the northernmost botanical gardens in the world, located just 85 km south of the Arctic Circle. Spanning 3.6 hectares, it houses over 7,000 plant species, including 400 native Icelandic varieties and others from temperate and high-mountain regions worldwide, demonstrating the resilience of flora in near-Arctic conditions. Open year-round with free admission, the garden features historical wooden houses like Eyrarlandsstofa, one of Akureyri's oldest, and the LYST café. From June to September, it offers extended visiting hours, allowing guests to immerse themselves in its vibrant displays and serene atmosphere.
