While everyone’s drawn to the main entrance of Yodobashi Camera in Shinjuku, I always make a point to circle around and check out this side too. It’s a totally underrated photo spot, especially at night when the giant neon signage comes to life. The bold red and electric blue combo gives off that perfect retro-futuristic Tokyo vibe.

What I love most is the character of this place—it’s busy, chaotic, full of glowing product posters and colorful kanji. There’s almost always someone walking into or out of the shop, which makes it ideal for adding some human scale to your shots. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch someone silhouetted just right under that glowing sign.

Best Time to Photograph:
Night, without a doubt. The neon signs pop best in the dark, and the reflections from the shop interior spill out onto the pavement. I usually shoot handheld here, around ISO 1600–3200 with a fast lens to catch the mood without needing a tripod. A little patience and you’ll get that perfect blend of still signage and street motion.
