Sankaku Chitai in Sangenjaya is one of those places that feels like it’s frozen in time—tucked away between neon and nostalgia. Just a short train ride from the buzz of Shibuya, you’ll find this tight little maze of alleyways packed with tiny izakayas, ramen shops, and glowing signs stacked on top of each other like Tetris pieces.

I love it here especially at night. The contrast between the glowing red and orange lanterns and the cold tones from the modern high-rise behind is perfect for moody street photography. Every corner offers a new frame, a new vibe—whether it’s someone sipping sake behind a plastic curtain or a chef fanning the flames of a yakitori grill.

Best Time to Photograph:
Definitely at night. The whole place lights up in warm tones and gets that cinematic look. A fast lens and a bit of patience will reward you with some of the best street scenes Tokyo has to offer.
