Day 1
Leave Chiang Mai in the morning for your first stop : Bo Sang umbrella village.
There you can buy some umbrellas and also check how they're made.
Then you can head to Take a Walk cafe, it's a replica of the hobbit house of Lord of the Rings.
After the cafe, head to Mae Kampong village and spend the night here. There's a great hotel called Lanna Wild, it's luxury and often fully booked, so make sure to book in advance. There are many other options from any price in Mae Kampong.
There you can visit the village, have some food in the giant restaurant in the tree, and visit the temple near the river.

On the way to Mae Kampong, you can stop to Bo Sang Umbrella Village, where you can see workers create and paint thai umbrellas, very interesting and a good place for some nice pictures. Of course, you can also shop for some souvenirs, there's a huge choice of very nice umbrellas of all sizes and colours. The town attracts thousands of visitors for its unique annual Umbrella and Sankampang Handicrafts Festival. With hundreds of handcrafted parasols and umbrellas decorating the town's entrance, Bo Sang has come to be known as "the Town of a Thousand Umbrellas". Each year, on the third weekend in January, the streets of Bo Sang are filled with color and craftsmanship. The festival features traditional Thai dance, music, food, and a beauty pageant bike parade. Visitors can also enter the Umbrella Making Centre to observe artisans in the process of creating the colourful umbrellas. It's an exquisite event full of sunshine, color, and craftsmanship.
